FREE Bible Version

by FREE Bible Ministry

The Free Bible Version NT is a new translation into modern English from the standard Greek text. Its intent is to be as faithful to the original meaning without being awkward or misleading. The style is contemporary English without using slang or colloquialisms, speaking to our modern society in a way people will understand.

Finally, a truly free Bible—free in terms of availability, free in terms of use, and free in terms of cost for download from the Internet. What does this mean?

The Free Bible Version (so far just the New Testament) is freely available. This means it can be viewed online, re-posted on other websites, and printed. It is free for use not only in the sense it doesn’t cost anything to use, but that the whole of the Free Bible Version can be used without any restrictions as to quantity and books.

So now you can use the Bible as freely as you want—producing booklets for Bible study on specific books, making the Bible available for viewing and/or download on your website, using it for personal Bible study on your phone or iPad or computer as you wish.

You can also use the Free Bible Version in the e-Sword Bible Study program. Use the links above.

Let your church know. Let your minister know. And may this free version of the Bible be a blessing to all as God intended.

The stated aim of Free Bible Ministry (FBM) is “To speak well of God through preaching, teaching, and sharing the Bible.” FBM grew out of the convictions of a number of Christians that they needed to address certain religious issues, believing that the touchstone of theology should always be that any concept should "speak well of God.”

This coincided with the recognition that current English translations of the Bible are all held under copyright, and this presents some difficulties in its transmission. For this and other reasons the group that became FBM initiated a new translation of the New Testament from Greek into modern English, with the plan that this would be made available without the restrictions of existing copyright. This work is now well underway and books are being released in draft form for review under a Creative Commons license that allows free distribution as either electronic text, audio files, or hardcopy with the only restrictions being that there must be attribution, that there must be no publishing for profit, and that the text is not changed. Those books of the New Testament that have already been released may be found at www.freebibleversion.org

Currently FBM is served by a board of five directors who volunteer their time to serve in this capacity. FBM is incorporated as a non-profit organization in the state of Maryland, USA, and is recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt (501 (c)3 status). FBM’s operations are funded by unsolicited donations. Those wishing to make donations may send them to the mailing address under Contact Us and will receive a printed receipt to be used for tax purposes.
